Liz Truss's government has lost control of the country, Labour leader Keir Starmer has said, as he attacked the government's handling of the economy and the NHS.

In his speech to the Labour Party conference, Sir Keir said: "This is a government that has lost control of the economy, lost control of the NHS, and lost control of the country."

He said the government's "reckless" economic policies had led to a "cost of living crisis" that was hitting families hard.

Sir Keir also accused the government of "failing" the NHS, saying that patients were facing long waiting times for treatment.

"The NHS is in crisis," he said. "Patients are waiting longer for treatment, and staff are overworked and underpaid."

Sir Keir said that Labour would "build a fairer, greener, more dynamic Britain" if it was elected to government.

"We will tackle the climate crisis, create good jobs, and build a society that works for everyone," he said.
